On December 16, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, where 15-year-old student Natalie Rupnow opened fire, resulting in the deaths of a teacher and a fellow student, and injuring six others before taking her own life.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes has stated that identifying the motive behind this attack is a top priority, noting that it appears to be a "combination of factors." 

Investigators are examining Rupnow's personal devices and online activities, including a possible manifesto, to gain insight into her actions. 

The rarity of female-perpetrated school shootings adds complexity to the investigation, as such incidents constitute only about 3% of U.S. mass shootings. 

The community has responded with vigils and calls for change, emphasizing the need for enhanced mental health resources and stricter gun laws to prevent future tragedies.
