lon Musk's Tesla lobbied UK to charge petrol drivers more
Elon Musk's Tesla has been actively lobbying the UK government to implement higher taxes on petrol and diesel vehicles as part of its push for more sustainable transportation. Tesla suggested measures like increasing fuel duties and imposing higher charges on fossil-fuel vehicle purchases. These funds would support tax incentives and grants, such as VAT exemptions, for electric vehicles (EVs). The company also advocated for an eventual ban on hybrids by 2032, aligning with the UK’s climate targets.
Tesla’s proposals also included requirements for automakers to increase the share of zero-emissions vehicles in their sales, expansion of public EV charging infrastructure, and financial incentives to encourage the transition to EVs. This aligns with Tesla's broader strategy of promoting sustainability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, although such measures could lead to higher costs for petrol and diesel vehicle owners.
